Campus Ministry

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105

The Lutheran campus ministries at Kansas colleges and universities provide a “church home away from home” for students. Our campus ministry leaders understand the challenges students face and are committed to providing them with the support they need, whether those students are longtime Lutherans or new to the faith.

If you or someone you know is heading off to college or already there, we encourage you to look into one of the LCMS U chapters listed below. We also invite you to complete the student contact form at the end of the page. When you submit the form, we’ll help you connect with a new church, wherever you might be headed.

Campus Ministry Video

Campus ministry is an excellent way for college students to continue growing in their faith during the college years. This video encourages high school students to get involved with campus ministry as they transition to college, as well as connecting with a local LCMS congregation. Meet the Kansas District Campus Ministry Coordinator

Rev. Mark Boxman was appointed to serve as the Kansas District Campus Ministry Coordinator in 2022. He is the senior pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Salina. Trinity holds a weekly Bible study on Thursday nights for college students to study God’s Word, share a meal, have fellowship, and pray.

Here are some insights Pastor Boxman offers on best practices for campus ministry:

1. Visit with your high school seniors about their plans for spiritual care and growth while away at college.

2. Stay connected to your college students. Ask them what they are doing to stay strong in the faith. Discuss if their college education and experience is helping them grow in faith or is it leading them away from Christ. Explore how God can bring the light of Christ to their campus through them.

3. If your community has a college nearby, be prepared to lovingly welcome college students into your midst. Invite them to lunch and get to know them. Offer to walk alongside them throughout their college experience.

4. Enjoy these energetic, curious, and adventuresome children of God.

Pastor Boxman can be reached at his contact information below, for additional campus ministry ideas.

Life at Trinity Lutheran Church is wonderful. All the people at Trinity have accepted me, and they’ve been very welcoming since the moment I stepped through the doors. I’ve enjoyed all the Bible studies on Sundays as well as the Disciple U’s on Wednesdays. Some people from the congregation have invited me over for dinner and taken me out for lunch after Bible study on Sundays. They’ve also sent me care packages each semester, and Pastor [Mark] Boxman created a college Bible study on Thursday nights for me and some of the other college kids from Kansas Wesleyan. Life at Trinity couldn’t be any better. The people are absolutely amazing!
